LET Anniversary Edition

June 2024 

Time to celebrate 6 extraordinary years. It’s been an incredible journey. On June 22 the LET team, teachers, students and partners all got together to celebrate the impact that LET has had in society, to all the students we have touched through teaching, to the teachers who have grown personally and professionally. This anniversary edition sets out to highlight more about the evolution of LET, the secret of its growth and the two key questions that we pose to teacher applicants in LET's recruitment. 

 

The Early LET Days 

Stephane had been working in the Catering, P.R and Event Management industries while Michael was working with a British Council accredited school called United International College. They met through friends who also enjoyed world travelling. At that time Michael had a trip planned to Calcutta, India to escape the stressful life of London and do some volunteer work teaching. Stephane, also over-worked, decided to become Michael’s travel buddy and the LET story began! After that trip Michael and Stephane undertook volunteer work in Venezuela, South America, teaching English to hotel and catering staff. After those two amazing experiences, they decided to open their own language school combining Stephane's management and logistics experience with Michael's expertise in the language industry and education network. LET was finally born in London, U.K.  A few years later and after many trips to Spain, LET Spain was formed. Currently in plans is the formation of LET France and a review of the potential of Middle East Territories.

 

 

Moving from Presential to Online

Before COVID the best form of education was presential. There were a few online courses, however due to Michael’s experience in the industry moving online to him seemed a step too far. It took Stephane’s daring thoughts to convince Michael to at least try the online approach, 2 months after, COVID became a global pandemic affecting the lives of many. It was a very sad time, however it is said that during crisis one can find the positive side of life, many presential based businesses closed whilst some others transitioned to online. It was time to learn again, to reinvent oneself to be stronger in a completely new field of Language Education. We could not have done this successfully without building LET's network of amazing teachers and management. 

 

 

Moving from Online to Presential 

Our biggest client Maximus UK asked Stephane if we were willing to move our courses from online to presential. LET at the time focused on a “One to One” approach in teaching or maximum two, as small groups have a higher possibility of acquiring a language better. Maximus UK's proposal was to start presential groups in London, which had never been done before by LET. This time it was the other way around with Michael convincing Stephane to do it. We quickly set the structure up which led LET to find more extraordinary teachers to add to its growing professional network. What a success this engagement with Maximus UK has achieved for all involved.

 

 

The 2 Key Questions for prospective LET teachers:

  1. How do you feel on a Monday morning ? 
    An odd question to start an interview however how many people do you know who love or have that level of excitement to go to work on a Monday? This question is based on Michael’s love for languages. Monday is one of his favourite days of the week, if he could just find teachers with the same level of passion and dedication ( Fact : we have those teachers, as they are passionate and dedicated and enjoy their Mondays !) it would resemble Stephane’s love for cooking and event management, both Stephane and Michael work with intensity and passion which are fundamental key for success in life.
  2. How is your teaching going to make an impact in society ? 
    There are many types of teachers, however at LET we look for those who believe they can change the world, those teachers who believe they can touch people’s lives, those who dare to think outside of the box and do not conform to stereotypes.

 

 

LET moves away from the traditional way of teaching and allows teachers to explore different techniques, based on the Communicative Language Teaching and Task- Based Language Teaching approach which has been our secret when teaching English, Spanish, German and French ( Beginner’s to Advanced). In addition to this offering Business English, the Literacy Course, IELTS Preparation Course, the LET WhatsApp Language group and our soon to start Saturday Conversation Club. 

 
A brief summary of the evolution of LET from the beginning with just 2 people to having 15 professional teachers in the LET network and a team of 5 supporting management in the UK, Spain and France.
